Apple: 3M iPads sold over the weekend
USA MEDIA NEWS: An official statement issued by Apple confirmed an announcement Tim Cook made earlier during a conference call claiming that their third-generation tablet enjoyed record sales on a launch weekend. Since the new iPad’s debut on Friday, three million units have been sold, marking the strongest iPad launch ever. The company’s report is in line with AT&T’s recent announcement claiming that the third-generation tablet set new single-day sales and activation records for the second-largest carrier in the U.S.

However, since Apple’s statement didn’t mention presale numbers, it is uncertain if the three million figure included any of the preordered tablets. It should be noted, though, that preordered items aren’t typically counted as sales until they actually ship, suggesting that the final tally didn’t likely include iPads that haven’t arrived to their owners yet. In a similar way, Apple excluded presales from its initial iPhone 4S sales last year.
This year’s launch weekend represents a tenfold leap comparing to sales of the original iPad, which made up 300,000 units on launch day in 2010. The company hasn’t revealed a day-by-day breakdown, but, according to initial projection, over 1 million tablets were sold on launch day alone.
In its statement, Apple says that it has managed to increase the record number of iPads since it simultaneously went on sale in ten countries worldwide. The new device is scheduled to arrive in 24 more countries on March 23, including Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, New Zeeland and more.
